I'd like to find a studio in downtown Oakland, near BART. Ideas, anyone? (I especially like Iyengar.)

Sorry, I know of a few studios in Oakland, but none that was recommended to me near a BART station.

there is a well known and highly recommended studio on Piedmont.

there is another near lake Merritt.

and I found this after a quick search on the internet, and it's only a couple blocks from Rockridge BART:

Thanks Charles - actually Rockridge doesn't quite work for me, but...

Has anyone taken yoga at the Courthouse Athletic Club? (That's the place at 29th and Telegraph.) I'm thinking of joining, even though I'm sure it's hella expensive, because it seems to have what I want in terms of classes and facilities.

Update on this... I checked out the prices at the Courthouse, and it will be $84/month for me and hubby plus some initial fee around $100 I think - actually cheaper than the YMCA.

So I'm going to drop in after Thanksgiving, after I get back from Mexico. Keeping my fingers crossed that the yoga classes are good and not too crowded.

I'm a big fan of inner heat yoga in downtown berkeley. My favorite teachers there are Marianne and Martin (who owns the studio). Vinyasa yoga with a lot of attention to meditative states. The classes I take (Marianne's class on Tuesdays at 7pm and Martin's "immersion B" class on Tu and Thurs mornings) are quite athletic too.

The more advanced classes are "shadow yoga," which is a specific form of vinyasa yoga with a lot of attention to bandhas.

--My sister and nephew live in Fremont, so I searched around for a studio in the area and began attending classes at Life Stretch Yoga, on Fremont Blvd near Thornton. It's a clean, small place, with a loyal following and really nice teachers.
--Now I teach there! If you're in the Fremont/Union City/Hayward area, I highly recommend it. Most classes are Vinyasa, and most teachers are trained in the Ashtanga style.

I highly recommend Vara Yoga & East Bay Ashtanga! Ok - I'm a bit swayed but we have some really wonderful, knowledgable yogis teaching and the studio is really the most beautiful in the east bay. Offering Ashtanga, Asthanga (Mysore Style), Vinyasa, Sivananda, Gentle, Hatha Basics and many workshops. www.varahealing.com & www.eastbayashtanga.com in Albany right of Solano Ave. Namaste.

Mysore style Ashtanga with Vance Selover www.ashtangayogaberkeley.com
    6 mornings a week and 2 evenings a week.
He rents a room at the Berkeley Yoga Center (Addison and Bonar, Strawberry Creek Design Center, a few blocks from N Berkeley BART)
Great room, great energy and great instruction/adjustments!
Vance is on of the few teachers authorized by Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois to teach in the traditional ashtanga style. He has a ton of knowledge and experience.
